Portrait(s) Vichy : Ralf Marsault : Alter Ego

Preview

For more than thirty years, through two series, Fin de siècle (with Heino Muller) and Faintly Falling, Ralf Marsault, anthropologist and photographer, has followed the same methodology: “to stage and find the framework where each one will play his own role. “.

By sharing years of the life of the punk communities of Paris, London and Berlin, he has photographed from the inside a world “in resistance” and produced portraits that wish to initiate questions as much on the construction of identity as on the complexity of beings. The images also reflect his own questions about photographic practice: how to establish a relationship freed from domination between the photographer and his models, that is, how to make people see beyond appearances.

The 2021 edition of Portrait (s), a photographic event in the city of Vichy, is dedicated to French photographic creation.

“In this period when culture is undermined by the health context, (…) it seemed ESSENTIAL to present a selection, necessarily subjective, of authors of French photographic creation and to support a seriously weakened sector with this visibility” . Fany Dupêchez, artistic director.

From June 11 to September 19, Portrait (s) presents access free  exhibitions of:

Ralf Marsault, Corinne Mariaud, Patrick Bard, Mazaccio & Drowilal, Yohanne Lamoulère, Antoine D’agata, Mouna Saboni, Carole Bellaïche, Frédéric Stucin, Dolorès Marat / Des Mots pour Voir.
