Photo Days 2025 : Le Louxor : Sandra Guldemann Duchatellier : Une Fable Égyptienne

Preview

For its first collaboration with the cinema Le Louxor, Photo Days gives carte blanche to Sandra Guldemann Duchatellier. On the occasion of the release of her book Une Fable Égyptienne, the artist presents here a new series, woven from intimate narratives and archival fragments. Her photographs resonate with the singularity of Le Louxor—an Art Deco jewel with Egypt‑inspired architecture and a Parisian  landmark movie theater which became a symbolic setting for this exploration of roots.

In this work, Sandra Guldemann Duchatellier traces the thread of her family history through the Sednaoui archives, bringing back to light the photographs of her grandfather, forced into exile in 1961, and interweaving them with her own contemporary and documentary images. Between legacy and creation, she lets an enchanted, sensitive, fragmentary memory emerge.

An artist nourished by a life between Corsica, Italy, Switzerland, and Japan, she stands out for a delicate approach to reality. In an Egyptian fable, places, memories, and symbols intertwine in a floating visual narrative, between dream and revelation.

Presented on the second‑floor exhibition lounge, these photographs enter into dialogue with the history and singularity of Le Louxor. They invite visitors to step into another temporality rooted in the past yet profoundly of the present a meeting between memory and imagination.

About Le Louxor

Founded in 1921, Le Louxor is one of the few historic cinemas still standing in Paris and the only one in France decorated in an Egyptian style. Listed as a historic monument in 1981, it belongs to the City of Paris and is managed by CineLouxor, with anexperience in film production, distribution, and exhibition. Le Louxor offers a rich program of art‑house films, as well as special screenings for schools and children. Ticket prices are designed to be accessible to the widest possible audience. The cinema regularly hosts previews and invites actors, actresses, and directors to meet the public. On the second floor there is an exhibition lounge and, on the third, a bar with a terrace that offers a breathtaking view of the Sacré‑Cœur, adding an extra touch of charm to this unique venue. Since its reopening in April 2013, Le Louxor has been a tremendous success, attracting a broad audience thanks to its singular atmosphere and cultural engagement.
