How can one not be disappointed after visiting the first edition of PHOTO BASEL, launched at the same time as ArtBasel 2015. One can only feel sorry for the handful of galleries and editors attending, some of whom were offering quality artists and publications. They deserved a better setting.
Overcoming location issues, poor signage, and lack of space, exhibitors tried to remain upbeat. But one felt the lack of qualitative and quantative visitors. Although the range of photographers exhibited went from well known to emerging and prices were tamer than at the Messeplatz, the future of this event seems more than uncertain.
