The 20th PICTO Fahion Photography Award ceremony took place on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris. A jury chaired by Paolo Roversi and composed of prominent figures in the world of photography, luxury, art, and media, had met a few hours earlier to select the 2017 award winners among the 24 shortlisted portfolios. The First Prize went to Pascale Arnaud. Elsa & Johanna and William Waterworth won the Second and the Third Prize, respectively. The Eye of Photography joined forces with PICTO to publish a special edition featuring the winning presentations and series as well as the finalists.

Pascale Arnaud,  winner of the PICTO Fashion Photography Award 2017, a photographer from Aix-en-Provence and a graduate of the École des Gobelins in Paris, discusses her work: “One of my series is entitled Xiaodong. When I met this woman, I was fascinated by the cultural gap that separated us. As we walked along the West Lake in China, the first light of dawn was chasing away the night. Xiaodong always had a timid expression on her face, as if she were emerging from a prolonged torpor into a sense of awareness she couldn’t yet control. Another of my series is called Emerging Adulthood. The title designates a newly defined period between adolescence and adulthood that has not been around very long. It’s about Generation Y, or the Millennials, who are often stereotyped, like for instance the fact that we have no desire to ever grow up. Emerging Adulthood thus talks about exploring one’s identity, experimentation, about how one views one’s own body, about complexes, love relationships, instability.”
