New Delhi 2013 –Pix magazine

Preview

What photographs taken today will represent our era in tomorrow’s archives? Rahaab Allana, the editor-in-chief of the quarterly photo magazine Pix, presented the publication in response to this question.

R. Allana : Although the preservation and promotion of our photographic heritage is essential, I feel that supporting contemporary photography is equally important.

Pix is an independent publication that presents the work of young photographers on a given theme. Each call for contributions yields 60 to 100 proposals. From there, we select a dozen stories and combine them with texts by journalists, researchers, writers and artists.

We also organize six exhibitions per year of photographers featured in Pix. They curate their own exhibitions.

What we are trying to do is showcase the work of photographers of all backgrounds from India and South Asia, regardless of whether they work with film, digital or with smartphones. Pix demonstrates the region’s contemporary visual culture and how it is nourished by its lively popular culture.

With Pix, we hope to make photography more accessible, offering a platform for original perspectives on our culture and society.
