Moretti Fine Art : Massimo Listri – Photographs

Preview

From 15 to 28 April 2023, Moretti Fine Art presents in Monaco the exhibition “Massimo Listri – Photographs”, a retrospective dedicated to Massimo Listri, a world- renowned artist of architectural photography.

The exhibition brings together a selection of 15 photographs that trace the artist’s long career, offering a complete panorama of his production, with large-scale works of considerable visual impact.

The images proposed are transcendental: his photos transmit an almost deafening silence, as if time had stopped, empty interiors illuminated by a perfect light that creates a surreal atmosphere and idealises their beauty. The same beauty that we find in Arno Brecker’s sculptures immortalised in these close-up portraits.

His style is influenced by his passion for collecting antiques and for interior decoration together with his interest in art history. A particular example of this is the series of photographs of 17th-18th century libraries such as the Escorial Library in Madrid or the St. Emmeram III Library, Regensburg, Germany, in which the passage of time seems to have crystallised.

As Apostolos Mitsios writes ”What makes his work unique is how he has made interiors look so absolutely vivid, as if they had a secret life of their own that only he knows how to portray. Listri has the extraordinary ability to capture all the small details that make the difference and reveal all the stories that remain hidden behind the surface. Listri’s photos transmit an almost deafening silence, as if time had stopped and humans had suddenly disappeared and the only thing reminiscent of them are the interiors they’ve left behind, the remains of their lives and their passions, their art and their culture.”

The extraordinary eye of the master Listri captures the soul of every space that portrays from ancient art museums, noble palaces, libraries and conventual and palatine archives to the most contemporary shots, those dedicated to rationalist architecture.

Massimo Listri (Florence, 1953) began his career as a photographer at a very young age. At the age of 17, he was already working for art and architecture magazines and, during his university studies in art and literature, he contributed to numerous photographic productions. It was with the publisher Franco Maria Ricci that he had the opportunity to make his first major reports for the magazine FMR. For more than 20 years, this prestigious publication was the main vehicle for the diffusion of Massimo Listri’s photographic creations in homage to the most beautiful palaces, interiors, villas and extraordinary architectural works of all time.

In 35 years and in collaboration with the most prestigious publishers in Europe and the United States, he has published over 80 books.
