Montreal: Valérian Mazataud

Preview

On display now at the Maison de la Culture du Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal is the exhibition De nous il ne reste plus personne by the photojournalist Valérian Mazataud. Based in Montreal, the French-born photographer offers a fresh and sensitive look at the Syrian conflict and its refugees on the Jordanian border.

For several weeks, Mazataud visited the Zaatari and Ramtha camps in northern Jordan, covering current events for both the press and for Handicap International, a partner of the exhibition. Concerned for the future of these families and their “emotional heritage,” he photographed the belongings they were able to bring while fleeing, objects which honor their memories and their past. Mazataud listened to their stories and captured these moments of intimacy.

Presented at the Zoom Photo Festival Saguenay 2013, De nous il ne reste plus personne will also be exhibited at the 2014 edition of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival in Toronto. A member of the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec (FPJQ), Mazataud is represented by Redux Pictures (New York).
