Mois de la Photo 2014 : Matt Wilson aux Filles du Calvaire

Preview

The Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire is holding a rich and diverse exhibition devoted to English photographer and globetrotter Matt Wilson (b. 1969 in Kent, England) with some 80 small-format photographs and several series.

It begins with photos taken in the United States, where Wilson lives today. In what we imagine to be the great American West, we see arid landscapes, bushes and trees twisted by dust and wind, wide open roads, soft colors, and a vintage aspect that goes against the feeling of poverty one gets from the subjects. A charismatic couple, with craggy faces and plaid shirts embodies a certain idea of the fringes of American society. A little girl in a flower dress covers her eyes. Broken-down cars and houses personify desertion. A canyon cliff invites the viewer to take the road to the next hotel, which looms, like the canyon, out of nowhere.
