To open the year 2026, the MEP presents American Images, the first solo exhibition in a Parisian institution dedicated to the Dutch photographer Dana Lixenberg.
The exhibition explores more than thirty years of rigorous, deeply human work: these images compose a multifaceted portrait of contemporary America, where celebrities and lesser-known subjects are approached with the same consideration and portrayed with dignity.
Born in Amsterdam, Dana Lixenberg moved to New York in 1989 and developed a photographic approach rooted in slowness, listening, and attention to the relationship. As a foreign artist observing the United States with clear-eyed distance, shaped by her progressive upbringing, Lixenberg gently questions the myths of the American dream. Her portraits form a counter-narrative to dominant representations of America – a gaze whose relevance remains striking.
