May ’68: Photographs and Posters from the Popular Front

Preview

For the 50th anniversary of May 1968, Galerie Argentic in Paris is presenting a wide selection of photographs and posters dating from the beginning of the Popular Front to the events of May ’68. These images incarnate the major social struggles of the 20th century. From anonymous photographs of the Popular Front strikes to the mythic snapshots of May ’68 by Claude Dityvon, Marc Riboud, Serge Hambourg, Jean-Claude Gautrand, Daniel Lebée, and Janine Niepce, this exhibition titled La lutte continue [The struggle continues] lets the viewer relive a half-century of French demonstrations and protests. The socialist and communist long march of 1934, the Popular Front strikes, the posters and graffiti from May ’68, the Latin Quarter in a state of siege: a return to the most important social movements in France.
