In France, in the “red suburb” of south-east Paris, the Gagarin city of Ivry-sur-Seine will be destroyed. Inaugurated in 1963 by Yuri Gagarin himself who planted a symbolic tree, the imposing red brick building will disappear in 2019, marking the end of a social housing typical of those years.
At the time, for many families, some of them from slums, this meant the possibility of finally living in decent housing.
