Philadelphia : Marie-Claire Montanari – NYC 70’s

Preview

Last summer, Marie-Claire Montanari left us. L’Oeil reviewed in the past the work of the French, New York based photographer who studied under the tutelage of Lisette Model, Philip Halsman and George Tice. While mostly known for her classic female nudes, Marie-Claire also shot the streets of New York for decades.

In the last year of her life, she dived into her archive to unearth hundreds of images of the city in the Seventies. Fancy mannequins in luxury store windows clashing with shots of derelict streets and civil protests.

The carefully curated collection will soon become her second book after The Nude You, this one called NYC 70’s.

L’Oeil is presenting  a selection of these images, most of them unseen until today.

This summer Calderwood Gallery in Philadelphia presents a retrospective of her work.
