An important archival collection of historic and modern photographs will be sold under the hammer of Maître Marc-Arthur Kohn, at Hotel Drouot in Paris, on Wednesday, September 28th. Numerous albums, series, artists’ proofs, press prints and other lots will be dispersed to the highest bidder. This group of photographs, which covers the history of the medium from its beginnings to today, includes numerous curiosities and prints by authors who have yet to be identified. There is enough material to start or pursue a collection, purchase a decorative set of prints, or find an original gift.
The sale will also present a selection of photographic works from private European collections. Among the 287 lots, prints by anonymous photographers will be auctioned alongside great signatures such as Abbott, Arbus, Atget, Avedon, Baldus, Boubat, Capa, Clergue, Curtis, Karsh, Keïta, Le Gray, Man Ray, Nadar, Newton, Ronis or Hiroshi Sugimoto, to name a few. Several lots from the former collection of Jacques Ducom, an amateur photographer and friend of brothers Albert and Gaston Tissandier, who pionneered hot air balloon aviation, will also be of interest. Among these, an aerial view of the Pont St-Michel, circa 1872, attributed to Nadar, and two enlargements of the first photographs of lightning bolts (1886) by Charles Moussette.
