The 4th Prix Pictet was awarded on Tuesday, October 9, to the French photographer Luc Delahaye. The winner was chosen for his ten pictures on the theme of “Power,” which continue the excellent work he has done over the past decade. The prize is worth 100,000 Swiss francs (100,000 dollars, 65,000 pounds, 80,000 euros) and sponsored by the private Swiss bank Pictet & Cie.
Jacques de Saussure, a Senior Partner at Pictet & Cie, announced the photographer chosen to produce the Commande du Prix Pictet, worth 40,000 Swiss francs (40,000 dollars, 27,000 pounds, 30,000 euros). The winner was the British photographer Simon Norfolk, who for the assignment will travel to Afghanistan, where the bank provides financial support to the Swiss humanitarian organization Medair in the isolated province of Bamyan.
The following twelve photographers were finalists: Robert Adams (USA), Daniel Beltrá (Spain/USA), Mohamed Bourouissa (Algeria/France), Philippe Chancel (France), Edmund Clark (UK), Carl De Keyzer (Belgium), Luc Delahaye (France), Rena Effendi (Azerbaijan), Jacqueline Hassink (Netherlands), An-My Lê (Vietnam/USA), Joel Sternfeld (USA) and Guy Tillim (South Africa).
