Since I was a small child, I have been interested in the representation of femininity in art history. Considering the current gender debate, the fluid boundaries between the sexes and the dissolution of traditional gender roles I teamed up with Berlin based model Jannick Hahn to create an art story, in which we examine the representation of femininity in the discourse of the Old Masters, the masters of depict the female nude. I got to know Jannick on Instagram and was fascinated by his shift between gender roles, his play with femininity. In this story, he represents the masculine, the feminine, flowing gender boundaries in the context of Old Master posing and lighting. The lack of apparently male attributes – less hair, skinny body and this very feminin attitude – makes him a neuter that slides back and forth between gender boundaries. He is not playing a role in this story like a normal model, he lives the concept to be a goy, a birl, a human being between boundaries.
