Locarno Film Festival : René Burri

Preview

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the most important film festival in the country, the Centovalli and Pedemonte Regional Museum is pleased to pay tribute to the Locarno Film Festival with an exhibition by the well-known Swiss photographer René Burri.

The latter, a great lover of the seventh art, attended the Festival for years, also sitting on the jury in 2004. Through his camera, which accompanied him on every occasion, numerous shots – partly unpublished – were released that tell the story of the Festival over the years and in its various facets.

The exhibition presents about fifty photographs taken since the 1980s in which characters from the world of cinema, life scenes and “cult” places of the Festival such as, for example, the Piazza Grande and the evenings at the Grand Hotel are re-discovered. A sort of dive into the history of the Locarno event through the images of the photographer Burri, known by most for the famous photographs of – for example – Che Guevara, Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti and others.
