Les Boutographies 2013 –Alejandro Erbetta

Preview

The project Reprises is a photographic documentary and autobiographical work . It begins with the voyage my great-grandparents took from Italy, where they were born, to Argentina. My idea was to follow the traces of their immigration, to reconstruct, through images, documents and stories, their journey. In 1885, they left the Piedmont region in Northern Italy to the port of Genoa, where they boarded a ship named the Matteo Bruzzo. One hundred and twenty-six years later, I traveled the same path. Although the focus is a personal history, I believe that it has a universal dimension. Reprises addresses questions about identity and immigration that are essential to our time and its relationship to History.

Alejandro Erbetta was born in Buenos Aires. In 2002, he began studying photography in Buenos Aires, graduating in 2006. In 2007, he was admitted to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles for a year-long residency. In 2008, he moved to Paris to pursue a Masters degree in photography and contemporary art at the Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis.
