The Fondation des Treilles, initially created by Anne Gruner-Schlumberger, is located in the Haut Var and is part of a remarkable landscape conducive to creativity. Built in the same vein as the Villa Medicis as an artistic residence and think tank about Mediterranean culture, the first invited artists are two photographers: renowned French photographer Véronique Ellena, and young Palestinian photographer Raed Bawayah.
Véronique was recently recognized for her work at the Villa Medicis about still lifes and her pictorial research about the homeless, “the invisibles”. Without actually working in land art, she has, over the past few years, begun taking pictures during her long walks, taking meditative and silent pictures, apple trees in a storm or endless poplars reflecting on a lake. Using the wild nature of the Treilles domain, she presents an herbarium of the location’s historic and everlasting vegetation as it changes over the seasons.
