She finds herself navigating a world that is full of challenges and prejudice to overcome. Living with albinism not only means an absence of pigmentation in the skin and hair, but also impairment in vision. Not allowing herself to be dispirited she goes about her business like any other, propelled forward by inner strength. We all fight our battles, with the difference being that she wears her vulnerability on the outside for all to see. The preconceived opinion being that she is frail.
Nude explores the duality between the vulnerability and strength within oneself. The soft colour palette represents the vulnerability, whilst the strength and determination is found in the body language.
The Siblings
This is the story of siblings, specifically the relationship between two sisters. Family is a connection we do not choose for ourselves, but can be one of our strongest bonds. The bond is not a given and needs to be developed over time, through shared experiences and the struggles we encounter in our daily lives. One of the struggles is how to further the relationship, but giving enough room for the individual to blossom. The older sibling is expected to be the role model, the guardian, to give guidance. A role that might be respected in hindsight, but in that moment is seen as a nuisance. The younger sibling too has obstacles to overcome, often living in the shadow of her older sister and thus overcompensating. The Siblings shows the emotional journey that is sisterhood
