Today’s edition is dedicated to the Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival which takes place in Xiamen in China from December 15, 2023 to January 21, 2024.
Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival is a collaboration between Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, China, and Les Rencontres d’Arles, France. Since it was initiated in 2015, the festival has presented nearly 300 exhibitions from China and other Asian countries, as well as a selection of outstanding works from Les Rencontres d’Arles. Over 600 artists’ works have been presented and the festival has attracted a total of 430,000 visitors.
Each year, two major awards of the festival, the Jimei x Arles Discovery Award and the Jimei x Arles Curatorial Award for Photography and Moving Image are announced during the opening week.
The ninth edition festival features works this year by more than 100 artists from 15 countries including France, Germany, the United States, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and China. A programme of activities throughout the festival at the Three Shadows Xiamen Photography art Centre and Jimei art Centre, as well as galleries and art schools in both Xiamen and Fuzhou, including the opening ceremony, portfolio reviews, panel talks, workshops, artist-guided tours, performances and educational tours.
