In the 1970s and 1980s, Gérard Rancinan covered global news for the SYGMA agency, and experienced the golden age of photojournalism. He photographed Pope John Paul II, artists, and celebrities in now-famous settings, crisscrossing the United States by bus from east to west in the 1980s. Through this unprecedented series, which has never been exhibited or published, he shares his vision of the United States in all its everyday banality, the anti-American dream. The 120 photographs will be auctioned at IVOIRE CHARTRES on May 18th, as part of the L’art pour tous (Art for All) label, developed by Gérard Rancinan’s studio, designed to make art photographs accessible. As such, they are estimated at €800-1,500.
During Trois jours trois nuits et un matin (Three Days, Three Nights, and One Morning), the time it takes the Greyhound Bus to cross the United States from New York to Santa Monica, which gave this series its title, passengers arrive from all over the United States with their stories and dreams.
