We learned of the passing of the legendary anti-apartheid photojournalist Dr. Peter Magubane a few days before his 92nd birthday. The ICP stated : “Magubane documented decades of apartheid in South Africa including the 1976 Soweto uprising – a series of demonstrations led by Black students in Soweto, initially spurred by the introduction of Afrikaansas the mode of instruction in schools – the trial of Nelson Mandela, the 1960 Sharpeville massacre, and many other critical moments, focusing not only on violence and protest, but also on the resilience and continuance of everyday life in apartheid South Africa.”
