ImageSingulières : D’OC, six views on Occitania

Preview

The key idea of the D’OC project was to offer six young photographers, working in the style of creative documentary, to integrate them into a production project that started in Occitania. Carried by ImageSingulières, this two-year commission where parity, three women and three men, is respected, is an itinerancy, guided by the main lines – not exhaustive – which draw the geography of this territory.

The D’OC project was launched in December 2019 with a first commission given to photographer Melody Garreau along the waterways. She was followed by three other young photographers in the course of 2020: Adrien Ribet who crossed the Pyrenees, Marianne Thazet who followed the paths of Compostela and Théo Combes who surveyed the city of Montpellier. In April 2021, Paul Baudon and Pauline Dupin joined the project to work on the city of Toulouse and on the Cévennes National Park, and thus complete the vision of this territory, which in no way wants to be exhaustive.

In 2022, the result of this commission became a major exhibition, presented from September to December at the Documentary Photographic Center – ImageSingulières in Sète. The book “D’OC six regards sur l’Occitanie”, co-published with lamaindonne editions, was just released. The texts of Marie-Hélène Lafon (Prix Renaudot 2020), come with talent to feed our reflection on this new region so rich of a thousand-year-old history and multiple landscapes.
