Every year, the association Cétavoir gives a different photographer carte blanche to produce a portrait of the city. In 2013, the honor was intended for Gabriele Basilico. Illness prevented him from seeing the project through, but even a few weeks before his death, he expressed his desire to photograph the city for the 2014 edition. Sadly, this was not possible. As a tribute to Basilico, we decided to devote one of the three evening projections of the festival to his work. This will mark the first time a projection at the festival has been devoted to a single artist.
Although it is a tribute, we hope that the projection will make Basilico’s presence felt, through excerpts of his writings, some unpublished, where he discusses his ties to his hometown of Milan (which will be the subject of a long sequence, “Factory Portraits”) as well as his conception of photography.
