In the early winter of 2010, Guillaume Cyr and his companion Yana Ouellet traveled the long road along the coast of the Gaspé Peninsula. A journey of almost 1000km resulted in Gaspésie, Human Less, a photographic series that blends documentary and artistic approaches in its exploration of the abandoned houses that appear along that route.
Cyr and Ouellet have long been fascinated by the amount of abandoned buildings there, traces of a fragile presence in places conquered by the troubles and poverty of generations of fishermen and farmers. This journey to the gates of winter led to an exhibition presented this year in Chandler, an industrial city that lost its main source of employment a few years ago.
A Gaspé native who has lived in Quebec for several years, Guillaume D. Cyr is a professional photographer. In 2008, he earned a degree in visual arts from the Université Laval. He then studied photography at a specialized school in Matane, where he later taught.
