Galerie XII Paris announces the first solo exhibition of Sabatina Leccia, following her recent institutional exhibitions at the FRAC Corsica and the Art Center Una Volta.
It is undoubtedly from the silence of the studio and from her meditative creative process that Sabatina Leccia’s poetic visions rise to the surface. Visions that she materializes in photographs, drawings or video. Visions imbued with a textile sensitivity, inherited from her grandmothers, and which is dear to her. With her needles, stitch by stitch, the artist constellates reality to bring ever more wonder, beauty and light into this world.
For this first solo exhibition at Galerie XII, the artist brings together drawings, photographs and recent compositions, revealing a profound continuity between the mediums: the same attention to the fragile, to the invisible, to what emerges beneath the surface.
A sensitivity also nourished by her long hours working stitch by stitch in silence. From this long, suspended time in the face of the chaos of the world, an inspiration is born that comes from the depths and allows the artist to access the density of her dreams, of her memories, of “her intimate germinations.” In this silence there is also, undoubtedly, an eternal quest to seek the inner light, to seek that sun that soothes and heals.
Sabatina Leccia offers a sensitive wandering, a way of granting oneself a suspended moment at the edge of sun and night, an invitation to seize her images in order, in turn, to take the time to inhabit our silences.
For her first solo gallery exhibition, Sabatina Leccia brings together a body of works produced over the past six years, offering a transversal reading of her practice.
Like a chronological fresco unfurled across the walls, her drawings mainly small monochrome formats punctuate the hanging and testify to her earliest visual research.
Photographs with unreal hues, as well as textile works linen or organza that float in space.
A visual artist, Sabatina Leccia also presents an installation of Polaroids, the starting point for her hybrid works and her experiments.
