For one week, Alain Combier presents his exhibition entitled Alma Mater at the Galerie Durev. It is accompanied by this text:
Born in 1957 in Perpignan, Alain Combier became interested in photography at a very young age. Equipped with his Pentax Spotmatic, he traveled the plains and mountains of Roussillon, drawing inspiration from the light of Mediterranean landscapes, the rugged beauty of the Pyrenees, and sometimes from the geometry of architectural discoveries. A fan of black and white, he reworked the shadows and lights of his photographs in his laboratory and was fascinated by the “rise” of the prints in the developer tank, before their “fixation,” which transformed the ephemeral into the timeless.
Engineering studies and a long professional career in industry then took him, for forty years, from Paris to Montreal, then to Madrid and Tokyo. But he never lost his initial taste for photography. Over the years, he continued to enrich his portfolios, both in black and white, more refined and demanding, and in color, softer and shimmering, with a particular attraction to landscapes.
Now settled in Paris and freer with his time, he can give new impetus to his youthful passion. This exhibition at the Galerie Durev from April 8th to 14th, 2025, allows him to present works from his early period, from his beginnings in his native south. This is what illuminates the title of the exhibition, Alma Mater, the “nourishing earth,” like a return to his roots.
