The first photography festival in the town of Provins, in Seine-et-Marne, comme des images aims to become an essential annual artistic event, combining photography, heritage and conviviality. This new gathering is structured around contemporary creation and the history of photography, and unfolds across several iconic locations in the town.
At the heart of the festival is a commitment to supporting creation through an artist residency dedicated to the Provinois territory.
For this inaugural edition, photographer Fred Delangle has been selected. His work on Provins will be exhibited at the Église Sainte-Croix, a highly symbolic venue reopening its doors to the public after 40 years of closure.
The festival also offers a series of thematic and monographic exhibitions:
- “Paysages Rêvés” : a group exhibition bringing together seven artists. The ambition of this proposal is to reinvent the landscape through the use of historical photographic techniques, offering a journey that is both geographical and educational through the history of the medium. With works by Aassmaa Akhannouch, Grégor Beltzig, Florence D’elle, Irène Jonas, Jens Knigge, Laurent Millet and Takeshi Shikama.
- “Entre” by Estelle Lagarde : excerpts from an unpublished series by this photographer with a particular attachment to silver gelatin printing, whose magnificent prints were made by Diamantino.
- The festival also pays tribute to two major figures in photography: a retrospective devoted to the great post-war fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld, and a screening devoted to René Burri, celebrated photographer and member of the Magnum agency.
