Since 2003, the Arsenal Exhibition Hall has welcomed the winners of the HSBC Award for Photography. For the last stage of the travelling exhibition, the public will discover the award-winning images of Petros Efstathiadis and Antoine Bruy but also unpublished images made since their nomination, as well as that of Olivia Gay, Joy Henderiks Award.
Raphaëlle Stopin, Artistic Advisor, presents the new works of the laureates:
Antoine Bruy continues his exploration of remote lands and is interested this time in the Outback, a vast Australian territory with a semi-desert climate. There, far from seeking to contrast Western and Aboriginal cultures, colonial and native, the photographer tries to detect the manifestations of their interactions and to apprehend the relationship of man to this harsh earth.
Petros Efstathiadis sets the stage for a new story. As usual, news and myth are telescoping in a retro-futuristic vision of a crisis, this time climatic. A submarine seemingly stranded, a desk waiting for a prominent ambassador of lost causes presaging some new sculptural staging out of the imagination of the photographer.
