ANGLE presents … Expo_010 – “A little more than life” by Olivier Deck
“A little more than life” is a poetic meditation on childhood and landscape. Thirty-three black and white images, accompanied by a text, evoke the link of childhood with nature. The author, who tirelessly travels the Landes for 20 years, has photographed the forest, to its intimacy, its materials, its mists. At the same time, he has made portraits of children, which come to punctuate landscapes, bringing out resonances between people and things. An unpublished new “Icare in reverse”, coming after the images, evokes its own history in the south-west, closer to trees, streams, seasons… irrigated by the primordial force that rises from the heart of nature.
Olivier Deck finds in the immediate, everyday space, the raw material that allows him to express his states of mind with solidly composed images, with a radical and refined aesthetic.
Biography
Olivier Deck is a native of the south-west (Orthez, 1962) and has lived in the Landes since 1995. A multi-talented artist, he had a career as a painter before devoting himself to writing, to publish about thirty books: novels (Albin Michel), news (Verdier), poetry (Cairn), several times awarded (Hemingway Prize, Academy Award of Occitania, Chronos Prize for Literature, “coup de coeur” of the Académie Charles Cros for his work on the poetry of Bernard Manciet). He has been practicing photography since childhood. At the beginning of 2010, he decided to make it a privileged mode of expression, alongside writing. In 2017, he publishes his first photography book at the prestigious Contrejour editions, directed by Claude Nori …
