European Photography Is Turning Forty

Preview

A concise review of forty years and a stocktaking of photography today – this is what the Berlin-based journal European Photography offers in its recently released anniversary issue. Founded in 1980 by three students enthusiastic photography enthusiasts, it has become one of the leading pioneers of artistic and auteur photography in Europe.

The current issue combines memories of the early years of “independent photography” with exciting insights into the visual worlds of the “Generation Y.” To these ends, the magazine presents contributions by fourteen international photographers, all born in 1980 and thus the same age as the magazine itself.

Further topics include the “European Photography List of 40 Books,” an expert selection of photobooks from four decades, individually presented in image and text, as well as a timeline from the 1980s, which, for example, brings us back to the year 1987, when Photoshop was developed and the first electronic camera, the Sony Mavica, was introduced to the market.

The issue, produced with the latest printing technology, is now available in stores or can be ordered via www.equivalence-shop.com. The journal comprises 80 pages; the single-issue price is EUR 18 plus shipping.
