Espace DUREV : Jean-François Camp : La Perse à travers le temps

Preview

The Espace DUREV space presents ” La Perse à travers le temps” (Persia through time) an exhibition by Jean-François Camp. He writes:

“Like many, I received my first camera as a teenager and immediately perceived its magical power. Shy by nature but full of pride, I loved breaking the ice with that little black Bronica that allowed me to capture a smile, stop time, and create a book of memories that would never leave me again.

Equipped with this formidable weapon, I set off to conquer the world, first in rural France, then going to meet the artisans of Brittany to document “La Maison des Métiers d’Arts” and travelling around Europe for an organization of Linguistic Centers. Then came the big leap to America to refine my technique for three years at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Unable to stay still upon my return, and having been deeply influenced by Sabrina & Roland Michaux’s first book, “Afghanistan,” I set off by car for Asia with the sole aim of reaching Kabul.

After many adventures, I arrived at the legendary Hotel Kabul at the end of July 1971. Discovering Afghanistan and then Iran radically transformed the course of my life, as the following year I settled in Tehran for ten years until the Islamic regime forced foreigners to leave this immense country. Nevertheless, I returned every year until 1995.

These photographs are like the forgotten traces of a long experiences under the burning sun of ancient Persia; they bear witness to a certain metaphysical quest for the passage of time, for past civilizations that endure in our Western culture, through the desert wind…”
