Emmanuelle Descraques, Finalist Picto Fashion Award 2015

Preview

I was born near Paris in 1990. Very early on, I realised I had a gift for drawing and I long dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. I left the Lycée International in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 2008 with a baccalaureate majoring in literature and graphic arts and an international diploma from the school’s British section. At that time, I moved on from drawing outfits to a new-found passion for fashion photography. I took a lot of  photographs of my friends at iconic sites in Paris then fiddled around in Photoshop. I went off to study at the ETPA school of photography and game design in Toulouse, but I didn’t stay there long. Instead I came back to Paris and prepared for Les Gobelins school entrance exam for photography via an artistic course at Les Ateliers de Sèvres. I entered Les Gobelins, the school of my dreams, in 2010 to learn the technical and commercial side of photography. I graduated with my photography diploma in 2012 and started by doing a few photo “tests” for new faces. This exercise left me somewhat frustrated and I really started to think about style and story-telling in fashion photography. In 2013, I was lucky enough to assist Kourtney Roy on her project for an exhibition at Le Bal, which really inspired me in the search for my own style and in honing my technical skills. Today, I work regularly on editorials for web magazines and catalogues for young clothing brands, still with the same desire to tell stories but without eclipsing the clothes themselves.
