Edouard Boubat, The Mediterranean

Preview

The book Edouard Boubat, Méditerranée (Filigranes) will hit the stores on June 5th. To mark the occasion, the Galerie in Camera will open an eponymous exhibition featuring a selection of vintage Boubat prints. The photographs were taken between 1954 and 1973 around the Mediterranean in France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Jordan, Algeria, Morocco and former Yugoslavia.

Boubat was born in 1923. He spent his childhood in Paris and studied photogravure at the Ecole Estienne. He discovered photography in 1945 after the war. In 1947, he met Lella, who became his muse. From 1952 to 1967, he traveled around the world taking pictures, then worked freelance with the Rapho agency. His friend, the poet Jacques Prévert, called him the “correspondent of peace.” Boubat died on June 30th, 1999, at the age of 75.

The exhibition is also a part of the Photomed festival of Mediterranean photography in Sanary-sur-mer from May 28th through June 21st, 2015.
