E. Scorcelletti & G. Gamberini – Cinecittà

Preview

Today, the Cinecittà film studios in Italy may be forced to close… Strolling through the studios and sets, remnants of cinematic history, two Italian photographers pay tribute to this holy place of the world’s cultural heritage.
Gianluca Gamberini and Emanuele Scorcelletti take us on a singular tour, telling of us of the golden years of the Cinecittà film studios. Now deserted, the spirits of some of history’s greatest filmmakers still hang in the air—producers, directors, actors—with craftsmen working like magicians behind the scenes.

From picture to picture, we discover Studio No. 5, so dear to Fellini, the sets of Scorsese’s Gangs of New York, Sergio Leone’s abandoned camera crane, Spike Lee’s trailer, the saloons of spaghetti westerns and sculptures from the great historical epics.

Known for his sensitive portraits of stars, Scorcelletti shoots only in black-and-white, capturing with tenderness areas closed to the public. In addition to his work as an assistant director, Gamberini offers a fresh look at the studios where he studied and worked. He conducts a careful analysis of this forsaken setting, playing with the forms of its artificial architecture.
