Dominique Issermann transforms the airport into a cultural venue

Preview

Our airports are the first and last point of contact travelers have with Paris. This is why we feel it is our obligation to show the capital of France in the best possible light. This desire for excellence is of course inseparable from culture. To surprise, delight, and inspire: these are the objectives of our cultural program and the exceptional collaboration we have developed with Dominique Issermann. The word “exceptional” is not an overstatement, as the exhibition co-designed by our team from the Groupe ADP and the artist is utterly unique. And it is so for two reasons: first, because of the inimitable approach of the artist who, after Arles and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, has honored us by choosing Paris-Charles de Gaulle as the third location where to showcase her work, thus confirming the status of the airport as a cultural venue; second, due to the very nature of the exhibition: 80 photos from the artist’s personal archives are projected, thanks to the support of JCDecaux Airport, on 470 screens scattered across the eight terminals. A novel idea: the billboard becomes a medium of art, and images break up advertising to offer travelers intervals of beauty and emotion. The exhibition has no beginning or end. It is in motion and adapts to the traveler in order to surprise them along their journey, from arrival at the airport up to the departure gate. These moments of calm in the middle of perpetual movement on the screen are a breath of fresh air in black and white—the artist’s signature medium—and a wonderful gift to travelers from around the world. We express our thanks to Dominique Issermann for having had the courage to sweep us into this adventure.
