Another end-of-year “Coup de Coeur”.
These images by Bruno Palisson made on the occasion of the publication of his book « Visions périphériques(Peripheral visions)» published by Corridor Eléphant are accompanied by his text!
Sixty moments pass, slide by, elastic. They stretch, nothing ahead, nothing behind; they move forward.
Time flows, is counted down or up. At what speed? It is astonishing to divide time by itself!
Is it this measured time that forces our future to exist only at the moment it becomes present, or does the present unfold as each instant passes, with no notion at all of the future except perhaps for those born of our illusions?
The space-time of the universe, on the other hand, is stable. We know that the universe has existed for 13.7 billion years, long before our existence laid any claim at all only a few million years ago. We count for very little in the life of the universe; it has managed, and still manages, perfectly well without us.
We, by contrast, need points of reference, to measure and to count perhaps out of fear; the mind is afraid. My mind led me to believe, until quite recently, that I had to make up for a time I thought I had lost. I was driving fast, too fast along the tightrope of life, until I realised that time is not the same from one person to another.
Time does not pass in the same way depending on what we face or what we are confronted with. It seems to pass faster and faster as time goes by. A year that goes by when you are fifteen does not pass at the same “speed” when you are sixty. And “for that matter, time”. This time the time of our everyday lives belongs to each of us and cannot be compared or exchanged. Our watches will not change that.
