Catherine Gfeller was born in 1966 in Neuchâtel. She studied art history and literature before deciding to pursue the plastic arts. In 1995 she moved to New York, then to Paris in 1999. Since 2010, she has lived and worked in Paris and Montpellier.
Equipped with a camera and a microphone, Gfeller roams the city and country, blending into the flow of people and traffic. She sees her images reflected in buses and store windows. Then she looks behind walls, into the hidden spaces where men live, and examines their personal effects.
