Every spring, Cannes reenacts the same ritual. The Croisette becomes a theater, the red carpet is its symbol, and the entire world observes this stage where cinema displays its icons and its trappings. Yet, behind the spotlights and the carefully calibrated images, there is another story. One that is not always shown. One that is captured, with restraint and precision, by perspectives like those of Gilles Jacob and Gilles Traverso.
Far from the spectacular, their photographs reveal an intimate Cannes, suspended between memory and the moment. Gilles Jacob, a central figure of the Festival, which he chaired for over thirty years, captures the silences between bursts of energy, the gestures that escape protocol. His gaze, closer to contemplation than to capture, gives the Festival a human, almost fragile dimension.
At his side, Gilles Traverso perpetuates the family legacy: three generations of photographers dedicated to capturing a simple truth. Not that of flashes, but that of fleeting moments, of natural faces, of time stretching far beyond imposed poses.
