The exhibition A City of Dreams – 400 Years of New York, curated by CAMERA WORK Virtual Gallery, shows 40 works by selected photographers from whom the metropolis represents a central venue for artistic development. The city has a rich history as a center of activity for many artists as well es cultural and artistic movements. Since the 20th century in particular, New York has developed into the global center of modern and contemporary art.
In honor of Thomas Hoepker, who passed away in July, the exhibition features several of his works. Those taken in New York on September 11, 2001 are now regarded as significant works of documentary photography. The most famous work View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, towards Manhattan (9/11) is part of the exhibition.
40 works by 15 photographers – Thomas Billhardt, Michel Comte, Patrick Demarchelier, Arthur Elgort, Elliott Erwitt, David Drebin, Thomas Hoepker, David LaChapelle, Vincent Peters, Robert Polidori, Steve Schapiro, Martin Schoeller, Albert Watson, Dean West, and David Yarrow.
