Arles OFF 2015 : Summertime, meeting with six photography book publishers

Preview

To mark its 12th edition, Regard et Mémoires presents Summertime and invited the following six photography book publishers from the 6th to the 12th of July 2015 : Arnaud Bizalion publisher, Le Bec en l’air, Ediciones Anómalas, Enric Montes, Filigranes and Loco at la Bourse du Travail. This year 24 photographers welcome the public for book signings.

Initially designed as an urban itinerary through a neighbourhood of Arles known as La Roquette with Chez Ali’s bar as its nerve centre; a new exhibition venue has now opened at la Bourse du Travail (the Labour Exchange), kindly put at our disposal by the Arlesian branch of the CGT Union. Different structures involved in images have invested the display area , structures such as FOAM (The Museum of Photography of Amsterdam) or Diaphane (The Photography Centre of Picardy).

For the second year running, we are devoting this area to publishers, to all those who accompany and highlight the work of artists some of which will be presented on banners hanging in the Roquette from July 5th to August 31st.

• Arnaud Bizalion Editeur
I am developing a creative edition in the fields of contemporary art and photography, seeking  the perfect combination of form and meaning, while considering books as the extension of an author’s thoughts. I privilege writing whose visual and aesthetic sense is articulated around the meaning that every artist gives to his work, and I accompany the artists into the magical universe of books to ensure that each book represents the subtle values of their creation. Each work is constructed from multiple hands, authors, writers, translators, graphic designers, proofreaders, manufacturers and editors teaming together for the betterment of art.

• Le Bec en l’air Editions
Founded in 1999, Le Bec en l’air is an independent publisher based in Marseille  in La Friche La Belle de Mai. Most of our publications share a common trait, which is the dialog between image and text or between photography and narrative, through a contemporary layout and auteur photography. Our catalogue – which contains more than 130 titles – has grown by welcoming varied photographic writings over time which  have built up an editorial consistency: photography perceived as a tool for questioning the contemporary world, whether it be driven by a documentary, an aesthetic or an intimate purpose.

• Enric Montes
After a life in photography, in 2009 he created his publishing house to publish his own projects. Enric books generate a universe of images that give life and its forms other senses, outside the ordinary. They have an appearance and proportions that are closer to  books of poems than photography books. These are books full of research, in which each image could be the prelude to a story, a tale or a fable.
