Arles 2023 : Distant memories and exile

Preview

Among the 45 exhibitions on the program for this 54th edition, several offer an exploration of distant memories, and invite us to probe the notion of exile:

Jean-Marie Donat makes us rediscover Marseille, land of arrival and departure, city of passage for women and men from the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa.
Between our walls retraces a History of Iran from the 1950s to the present day, while the presence of the Iranian diaspora on the American west coast is highlighted with Sun of Persian Square by Hannah Darabi.
Rosângela Rennó and Oleñka Carrasco also use vernacular photographs, archives, and other multiple media to document our times. Finally, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation newspaper, an exhibition at the Montmajour abbey invites you to take a walk through the history of our world and current events.
