Arles 2020 from day to day by Thierry Maindrault
It is really urgent. It was urgent to install this exhibition in this atmosphere of permanent indecision. It is urgent to go and see, before it closes this exhibition which is breathtaking. It will be urgent to think about this flood of posters parading in front of and behind our eyes. “It’s Urgent!” a great question for visual creators on the risks weighing on the future of our planet. Of course, the users of the photographic tools have found their part in an incredible and original maze of circumstances.
The building is under renovation, the “plasterboard” panels are installed, the joints dried, a little last minute sanding (one more time) and dozens of posters are stuck directly on the walls. The alignments, the gaps are adjusted with the laser it is a great scenography that gets by as best as possible. If a great lot of exhibitions, even international ones, could be inspired by it.
For the photographic works exhibited, as for other processes, each creator expresses himself in his own way, the images please or displease, they amuse or irritate, they teach or provoke, they advise or insult, they tolerate or attack, in a nutshell a real success.
What if circumstances revived the original spirit of Arles, the place of informal meetings and exchanges, if this spirit resurfaced and if creation could flourish with only the tools at hand.
To be seen, to be extended certainly and then the entrance is free of charge.
