Anton F. opens Volume 2 of his “Quartier Lointain”

Preview

Anton F  had proposed to us in 2016 a first portrait of Ablogamé, this popular district of Lomé (Togo) where he has been living part time for the last 10 years. He continued and completed this series, “My distant district”, by proposing volume 2, composed as the precedent of clichés gleaned at the whim of his wanderings. His photographs are like essential oils, concentrates of the African soil.

“wandering is a science, it’s the gastronomy of the eye,” wrote Balzac *. “To walk is to vegetate; to wander is to live. Anton F. cultivated in Lomé this wandering science  at which Balzac devoted himself in Paris. He travels endlessly through the streets of his adopted neighborhood. He is white. and is not noticed anymore. He is a neighbor, an intimate. He triggers his camera guided by his sensations, because beyond the formal aspect of his photographs, his obsession for geometry, for symmetries, for horizon and vanishing lines, it is the invisible that Anton F captures: the spirit of the place.
