Aleix Plademunt –Dubailand

Preview

The exhibition presented at gallery Waltman is a collection of images that revolve around the Dubailand project and have it as their backbone at the same time.

Dubailand closely tracks some of the symbols that reference the action of man and his relationship with the environment of the city of Dubai. It aims to generate a faraway look through these signs: a global vision, extensible to decipher social and ideological evidences of some of our habits and generational concerns. With a minimum time and a maximum investment, the metropolis of Dubai has been built. What could have been a city model has become an artificial and distant experiment. Marc Augé defines Dubai “… not only as a distorted image of Occident, a mimetic and alienated dream, but the truth of the mental and physical universe that today this is common wherever we live. “

The exhibition presents part of the Dubailand project and its peripheral imaginary, but also images taken in Mexico, China and United States which served as reference to gestate it, and also some later parallelisms generated as a result of it. Consequences photographs ironical actions resulting of the human existence. Not from an anthropological approach, but from the fascinated observation of not having answers, from the surprise, the marveling and the absurdity at the same time, during the process of construction of the artificial landscape, and our relationship with all these elements.
