Abbaye Royale de l’Épau : Saison photographique

Preview

The Conseil départemental de la Sarthe invites you to discover a new edition of the Saison photographique at the Abbaye Royale de l’Épau. Set against the exceptional backdrop of the abbey and its grounds, this open-air photographic trail offers a stroll where heritage, nature and contemporary creation converse through images and stories.

This year, five photographers take over the site and invite us to explore the bond that connects us to one another, to our history, to our environment. Through the works of Corey Arnold, Paolo Verzone, Kateryna Lebreton, Steven Wassenaar and Gérard Uféras, photography becomes a space for encounter and reflection.

From American cities where wildlife is relearning to coexist with humans, to scientific research reshaping our vision of dinosaurs, from French countrysides in the midst of transformation to popular festivities celebrating the joy of being together, to the stories of Ukrainian women who found refuge in France, each exhibition offers a singular exploration of what connects us: our environment and our history.

True to its commitment to making photography accessible to all, the Département de la Sarthe also continues its dedication to arts education through the program Photographie au collège – À l’école du regard. The abbey welcomes the work of six classes from across the Sarthe in the students’ clearing.

While the Abbaye Royale de l’Épau is the epicenter of the photography season, photography also extends beyond its walls: on the locks of Solesmes and Roëzé-sur-Sarthe (Opéra baroque by Delphine Blast and Summer fairies by Kazuaki Koseki) and on the gates of the Hôtel du Département.
