The next edition of the Getxophoto International Image Festival will take place from May 29 to June 22, with the theme REC — that button we compulsively and repeatedly press on our devices to record all kinds of content. As always at this Festival, the theme is approached from a broad perspective, also addressing topics such as the overproduction of images, the constant evolution of technology, archives, and memory.
For the third consecutive year, researcher and curator María Ptqk will be responsible for the artistic direction of the Festival.
Participatory Program
This event also features a strong participatory program, including conver- sations, guided tours, presentations, inter- ventions, screenings, workshops, and night walks.
Gender Equality and Intersectionality
This is a festival committed to gender equality from an intersectional perspective. It considers gender alongside other closely related factors such as class, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, and race.
Theme: REC
Two years ago, we pressed the PAUSE button; the following year, we hit PLAY, and next, we will press REC. This will be the theme of the 19th edition of Getxophoto, bringing this trilogy to a close.
Open Air
Around twenty exhibitions will be scheduled, most of them outdoors, as Getxophoto is characterized by its radical defense of public space as a place for gathering, mutual recognition, and a field for experimentation, play, and celebration.
Audience
The Festival is committed to a culture of proximity, placing citizens at the center. It also promotes the active involvement of the local community— including merchants, hospitality workers, neighbors, and enthusiasts— helping to strengthen the social fabric.
Sustainability
With the goal of reducing environmental impact, we have been developing a sus- tainability plan for several years, once again earning recognition as a Sustainable Event awarded by the Basque Government.
