Here are the four winners in the Professional Photographer category in the Yangon Photography Festival 2017. From coverage of the fighting in Kachin State to a personal and aesthetic introspection, this latest edition of Yangon Photo Night has continued to impress by bringing into the light a selection of young, talented photographers. In referring to this new generation, Aung San Suu Kyi, president of the jury, declared during her opening speech, “For a long time we have spoken of Myanmar as a country full of potential. Today it’s no longer potential, it’s reality!”
The Forgotten War, de Hkun Lat:
The winner of the first prize in the professional photographer category, Hkun Lat, gives us access to the daily life of rebel fighters on the front line in a forgotten war in Kachin State. Since Christmas the fighting has intensified, notably with aerial attacks by the Burmese army.
