Yann Arthus-Bertrand continues here the work inaugurated in 1991 with Bestiaux (Livestock). The approach consists in capturing photos of the animals competing and their breeders at the Salon de l’Agriculture, which is held every year in Paris. In a studio set up for the occasion, these atypical couples parade, revealing different animal species, from the most widespread to the lesser known. The photographer’s desire is to present the daily work of breeders awaiting the consecration of know-how which is based on several generations.
The photographs of these incredible encounters between man and beast are fascinating, often funny, always astonishing.
At the beginning of my approach to the Salon de l’Agriculture, the search for extinct species was what I found interesting.
