I am Polish, 48 years old and I live in Warsaw, Poland.
The idea came out in 2009, during shooting the film entitled: “Alfred Schreyer from Drohobych”. That time, I felt that I have to come back to this place once again. I managed to do it in May 2011. This time I arrived on the invitation from Mrs Wiera Meniok, head of the Polish Centre at the local Pedagogical University in Drohobych. Thanks to her, I was introduced to Drohobych inhabitants who turned out to be extremely friendly, warm and open. I was taking photographs during a week time, being inspired by Bruno Schulz’s story “Spring”. I was not working on anybody’s demand, so I felt completely free in creation. I was not interested in strictly illustrating this story by the means of photography. The intention was rather to create an impression on the subject of today’s Drohobych. “One and a half town” permeated in history. So, I permeated myself in this town.
The basic cameras which I used in this project included a few dozen years old Zeiss Ikon 6×9 and a Fotokor 6×9, besides a modern camera obscura 4×5 inches and a simple digital Lumix.
“Spring” is a complete work. It consist of 32 photographs. This is the first part of a bigger whole project. I am currently working on the second part of the project which this time is inspired by Bruno Schulz’s literary work “Second Autumn”.
